VISITORS GUIDE-Local Attractions

MT. CHARLESTON - 35 miles (56 km.) from Las Vegas, highest elevation 11,918 feet (3,615 meters).  A four season playground, featuring-in season, sleigh riding, winter skiing and snowboarding park, picnicking, hiking, and horseback riding. Tours available.

BONNIE SPRINGS OLD NEVADA - An old western town in Red Rock Canyon, 16 miles west of Las Vegas with a motel, shops, activities, petting zoo, and western shootouts.  Great for kids and kids at heart.

DEATH VALLEY - 135 miles (216 km.) from Las Vegas, lowest elevation on North American Continent at 280 feet below sea level (84.93 meters).   

GRAND CANYON - About 300 miles from Las Vegas, 1 1/2 hour flight by plane, tours available.

LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA - Closest point is only 25 miles from Las Vegas with more than 550 miles of shoreline, swimming, water skiing, camping, boating, fishing, six marinas, tours available and boat rentals from Forever Resorts.  

HOOVER DAM - 34 miles from Las Vegas, 726 feet high from bedrock, a wonder of the modern world, tours of inside and outside of dam available, shops and visitors center.  River raft tours are available.   

RED ROCK CANYON - 15 miles west of Las Vegas, 3,000- foot escarpment produced by thrust fault, Bureau of Land Management visitors center, scenic area of rock formations and desert, hiking and picnicking.    

VALLEY OF FIRE STATE PARK - 55 miles from Las Vegas, scenic landscapes of hidden canyons and unique rock formations, petroglyphs and remains of an ancient Indian civilization, Nevada Park Service visitors center, tours available.

LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY - The 1500-acre Las Vegas Motor Speedway complex includes a 1.5-mile super speedway, 2.5-mile road course, 1/2-mile dirt oval, drag strip, and Go-Kart tracks.  Is open every other Friday night for locals to drag race in what is called the Midnight Mayhem program. This is an effort to get street racing off of local streets and into a safer environment. 

SPORTING EVENTS - Residents and visitors alike enjoy the wide variety of sporting events to be found in Las Vegas including Hockey with the Las Vegas Wranglers at the Orleans Arena, Baseball at Cashman Field with the Las Vegas 51’s, World-class Boxing at the MGM Grand, UFC at Mandalay Bay, UNLV Football and Monster Truck Jam at Sam Boyd Stadium, Professional Bull Riding Competition at Thomas & Mack Stadium, including the NRA finals in December. 

GOLF - With year-round sunshine, mild weather, and 39 golf courses to choose from, golf is the game of choice throughout the Las Vegas valley.  Prices vary from course to course and season to season.  Read more

Remember, to fish in Nevada or Arizona, you must carry with you a valid fishing license. If your license is for Arizona, and you plan to fish from a boat or other craft on Lakes Mead and Mohave, or on the shoreline of Nevada, then you must have a "use stamp" from Nevada (and vice-versa).
